phantom thread

Phantom Thread is a 13-look bespoke collection, which embraces slowness in design and garment construction. Made entirely of natural fibres, including GOTs certified Irish linen and Ireland’s first native bio-fibre, the Galway wool, Conor O'Brien explores the possibilities of the creation of wearable garments from limited resources - an invitation to follow the “phantom thread" woven into the material culture.

Here, fabric informs form. Shapes are led by what's available, not dictated by excess. Each piece questions the banal standards of a late-stage capitalist fashion machine that demands speed, sameness and disposability - and, in doing so, oppresses all of us.

Phantom Thread speaks to the transcendental forces that shape what we wear - the memory of fabric, the repetition of process - tracing the eerie bond between material and maker, craft and craftsperson.
